San Diego Web Design, the need for a quality website

Posted on | November 8, 2009 | No Comments

In today’s competitive market having a quality web presence is an absolute must. Over 80% of the people in San Diego searching for any product or service are using the Internet and if you don’t have a quality website you can’t tap into that huge potential. Many San Diego Web Design companies offer hosting and web design all tied into one service. In can be in your benefit if you are using one company that is servicing you web hosting, web design and email management. Many San Diego Website Design companies also offer email marketing and search engine optimization as well.

There are typically 3 different types of web design services available. The most basic is a build-you-own website program which consists of a service that you use and actually go in and build your own website. The services are typically very inexpensive and in some cases there are not any set-up fees. That is the upside. The downside is that some of the programs are fairly complicated to use and the end result is a low quality design. These solutions work pretty well for a personal website but if your website is going to represent your business it is in your best interest to hire a designer to build it. In many cases your website is the very first thing that your potential clients will see and it is very important that you put your best foot forward.

The second option is to hire a web designer to build a custom website for you.  A custom website typically starts at around $1500 and can go up from there. In this case you will get exactly what you are looking for, but you do want to make sure that your designer is competent and responsive. If you do get a custom website be sure to ask for and speak to at least 3 references. There are several San Diego Web Site Design companies that offer custom services. In these cases your web designer will also become your web master and will also be responsible for updating the content on your website as well.

The third option falls in between the other 2 and that is to find a company that sells website templates. A website template is a pre-made design which then gets customized for your company by a web designer. If you choose a company that offers website templates you will probably spend much less than with a custom site and your start up cost could be a fraction as with a custom design. In many cases website templates are extremely customized and you can still get a design specialized for your business. Some of the professional web design companies in San Diego offer website templates and in some cases they also offer Content Management Systems (CMS) so you can update your own content. A CMS will give you control over your website and will allow you to act as your own webmaster. This will also save you time and money in managing your website.

You should choose your option based on your budget and they type of business that you have. Your website is a very important tool for your business and serves several very important functions. In the first place your website is a tool that builds credibility. Just having a web presence will make your business more credible from the perspective of your clients. As was mentioned earlier, your website is the first thing that many of your clients will see so it is very important to have a quality website and it is probably the most important place to put your best foot forward. A website is also a very important marketing tool and will allow you tap into several on-line marketing strategies such as Search Engine Optimization, Adword/PPC advertising and Email Marketing. Your website can also be a very important educational resource for your clients. You can add articles, valuable links, and other resources to your website to add more value to your business.

Now is not the time to sit back and wait for business to come to you. If you are a San Diego business without a website you may be like a ship without a rudder.  Once you have your website up, take the time to research and learn about how your website can work for you versus just acting like an electronic brochure. If you are on a limited budget and need to get a website up quick you may want to consider using a company that specializes in website templates and pre-designed website options. Your business is also changing and evolving on a regular basis and your website should evolve along with your business. In this case having a CMS built into your website template would be very important.
